age rduced voting

Today we interviewed three people on wether the age of voting should be reduce. Thomas Patterson answered yes because the younger people are put in jail beggining at the age of sixteen so they deserve the right to vote if they can recieve felonies at that age. Linoln McColt said no because some young minds are ignorant and may make mistakes. The last interviewer Icis said it depends on who it is and wether they're smart enough to do it

srry HL...Im sick

You're probably wondering why i haven't been to Hl for these past few days ......Well that's because im really really sick. I have a bad case of laryringitis, my voice is toatly gone and i have a really bad fever. Im suppose to be working on a story with chris, and helping out with the halloween party preperations.....but im sorry to say that i wont be able to make it. This saterday im going to the hospital & im required to stay there for overnight observation & i think that im probably gonna get my tonsils removed. So im not gonna be able to come to Hl for a while im not sure if im even gonna be able to go to school. But i promise I'll try to be there as soon as i get better.

HarlemLIVE STAFF WHERE ARE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On Sunday me and shelise came to HL to come put everthing back after the terrible Battle of the DJs crap. It was so bad that no one was dancing and we had no DJs at all. We had the labtop for music, aint that a BITCH. The party ended early and we had no money at all for the party. Sunday afternoon me and shelise came to HL to move stuff back and no one showed up. Whats really good wit that ? We moved the tables, computers, cabinets and so much heavy objects. At least most of the staff should have came to help move stuff back. I feel every time its time to do something at HarlemLIVE fun no staff meembers come. But they always the ones asking to do so much stuff. The staff needs to get there act together because this shit aint cool at all. The staff meeting i have a lot of stuff to say to all the staff members about whats going on in harlemlive.

Scott Stringer

Today Kamal,Taylor and I went down to Scott Stringer's office and we had a oppotunity to interview the Manhattan Borough President.Taylor covered the story while I video taped it and Kamal took pics.Though we got there late, the interview still went well and I plan on posting the story on the website by this Friday.Though I wasn't at the office because of the interview, staff members still didn't come by which is one of the reasons why I, the Admin, is posting a blog.Hopefully it's the cold weather thats holding people back and not the fact that they dont want to do work.

Lagging

So there'll be a moratorium on other events until we get right what we're about. We have enuf on our plate with having to recruti new students and getting adults to come in to train them so that fresh content is up on the site.

Please don't forget to fill out story sheets so we can keep track of what's being worked on.

Recruit. Train. Go out on stories!!!!

Where are all the blogs?

Slow but good progress......

I'm guessing because of the cold outside and the fact that it's Monday, no one really came to the office.Besides that I'm continuing on putting the Halloween Party together.I have some help from outsiders and I'm still trying to get in contact with Raquiyah from Hot 97.To my surprise I have a couple of staff and non-staff members helping out too.I had Sandra go on to Papa Johnn's to ask if they can donate pizza for the party and they agreed that they will after they speak with their manager. There's a 80% chance so we're up there. We also had a teen interested in joining from Papa John's so this is not only a benefit for the party but for HL.I'm trying to get the Street Team to do a better job so we won't make the same mistake as before.Other then the party Kamal and I are stilll trying to find new office space and we're still trying to keep the website and the organization up.

Technical Difficulties

Besides the server and the internet that was not working well today we still got some work done. We're moving up and not down and nothing is going to stop HarlemLIVE(Well except the server LOL)from doing what we do best.We had some staff members work with their college mentors,we have a newbie who wants to study Journalism added to the HarlemLIVE staff and we're getting visits from alumni's(Clifton)whose helping current staff members with tech.Today so far was a good day!!

So much fun

Today was so much fun, I got to learn new things about people that I never knew, who knew drama brings people closer together. I am really loving school now ever since what happened a few days ago, people are so hillarious, I even made friends with two people who I use to have beef with, can't wait to go to school and HL tomorrow.

Rainy Day

We did some emails for recuitments, schedualed some stories and took some pics from events but other then that not many people came to the office today due to the rain so there wasn't much.

Friend or Foe

Everyone has a friend that they aren't sure that they can't trust, but gives them the benefit of the doubt. Recently I had a friend who blast out my other friend at her work place. Which in my opinion is over the top, because she knows how important Harlem Live is to her. She's Editor and chief and has accomplished a lot here at HarlemLive in a short period of time. (I'm proud of you girl). I see where shes coming from in venting her feelings but theirs a time and place for everything. We all are pretty good friends. So why not go up to her and let your feelings out. Friends are there for each other and can work through anything.

TAvis Smiley at Hue Man

note to blogger who wrote in red: Red doesn't show up good on this background!

No current staff were around when I went to HL yesterday afternoon. Kamal and Gabby were on story and Frierson was at the video workstation after all day at work. I asked him to come with me to check out Tavis Smiley at Hue Man. Tavis can be seen currently on Ch. 13 in NYC at midnight. He has a half hour talk show. He also can be heard on rad

When we showed up at Hue Man, there definitely was a buzz in the air. They had most of the store roped off. Only those that purchased the book were allowed to enter the closed off area and take a seat. Chris and I got in as we were press. The seats were arranged different than usual, making more room for the larger crowd. Many folks were already sitting in anticipation of the special guest.

Chris and I stood towards the back as Chris shot some footage of the crowd and set up. We saw former councilman Bill Perkins come through saying his name.

It wasn't long when in the back door from the Magic Johnson theater that Tavis Smiley came through with an entourage, including Dr Cornell West, author and Princeton University professor.

The event was probably the most moving I'd ever seen. I'm going to write an article about it for the site.

Overall it was really fun, i had a great time there representing HL, and i cant wait to finish my video for it.

My First Day At HL

My first day at HarlemLive was ok.Today i was taught how to us the apple computer, i was shown how to use the printer and fax machine, i was shown where the paper for the printer and fax machine is located. For my first day at Harlemlive my friend Shelise was yelling at everyone cause they did not post a blog, i felt kinda bad because today i just started learning what i gotta do and shown what to do so i really didnt know what to do but now i know that Shelise dont play around when it comes to doing work. I never saw her act like this in school so it was shocking to me and i wouldn't want her to get on my case for not doing any work. I can't wait until i become more advance in my job as a video editer because i think it will be more interesting and fun. On tuesday im goin story hunting and im looking forward to doing it cause it seems like its gonna be fun.

HarlemLIVE GONE WILD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today at harlemlive has been a crazy. People who come once in the blue come and dont do any work. Which i think is fuckin sad. People need to get there shit together of fuckin go home. I bet next week when we have or Battle of tbe DJs everyone of them is gonna come and try to get in for free. Bullshit people need to start doin stuff around here or its gonna be some shit that goes down. For example the Open House we had on Wednsday was so fuckin bad. Barely any staff member came only Me, Shelise, and Khareem was pretty much the only staff that came and cleaned up the day before for nothing. only two people came to the open house. Ok i know its was raining but if Chris Brown was here with Beyonce everyone would fuckin come. If people want to be apart of HarlemLIVE they need to get on point quick. Remeber the Bet all or most of the staff will end up coming to the Battle of the DJs and Halloween Party and think that there gonna get in free but it AINT HAPPENING!!!!!!!!!!!

A day on 110th!

Today i came to HL and i wasn't here for 15min. and here comes RICH! Time for a STORY!! so within a couple of min. me, rich, and cat were on the train headed to 110th. We went on a story hunt and although it was getting late, I was surprised about what stories we were able to find. We ran into a couple of things that were not cool such as a hotel that was ran down and another hotel that looked very low budget. We also looked more into the condos being built on 110th and park which are going for 1.5 million a piece. I didn't see who in Harlem would be able to afford that type of housing meaning the community is gonna look veryyyyy different. Other than that today was fun even though it was pretty cold.

Van's great work

Here's a pic from HL's Staff Meeting

Getting Back

We've had both a fast and slow start to HL this year but I'm confident we'll get things going. Just have to get back to do what we do , which is producing content.

By doing stories, and keeping the commitments to report, write, and publish, we build self confidence, gain skills, become uninhibited to make things happen and build portfolios that make us better candidates for college and employment.

We need to regroup to get out to recruit, train and keep going out on stories!

And keep your eyes out for new space!
